Innovate UK Energy Catalyst Round 7

Up to £22m is available as part of Innovate UK’s Energy Catalyst Round 7 for innovative energy technologies which focus on the energy access needs of Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia which also hit all three areas of the energy trilemma of:

  • cost
  • emissions
  • security of supply and energy access

The funding is provided by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and Department for International Development (DFID).

There are three options to apply into this competition. These are referred to as strands and will be run in parallel. The strands are dependent on the stage your project is at:

  • early stage for feasibility studies (up to 12 months and £300k costs)
  • mid-stage for industrial research (up to 24 months and £1.5m costs)
  • late stage for experimental development (up to 36 months and £5m costs)

For mid and late stage projects there is a requirement to have a partner with a legal entity in one of the SSA/SA listed countries and to do some testing and or demonstration work in country.
