Since launch in August 2017, Energise Africa (a partnership between two of Europe’s leading impact investing platforms Lendahand and Ethex) has raised over £13 million in blended finance from a community of 2,500 individual investors, alongside investment from UK aid, Virgin Unite and Good Energies Foundation. This investment has been critical in providing solar businesses with the flexible and affordable debt funding needed to provide pay-as-you-go solar across sub-Saharan Africa. To date Energise Africa finance has enabled solar businesses to provide more than 400,000 people with access affordable clean energy in Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, DRC and Cameroon.
