With Lumos, households and small businesses in the off grid world can replace kerosene and candles with modern electricity that can power lights, cellphones, fans, computers, TVs and other small electronic devices (all at once, every day), and all for the same cost spent today on kerosene on a lease to own basis, purchased via the mobile phone.
Lumos’ systems were planned and developed for Pay-Per-Use functionality, allowing small ongoing payments, and also assuring no usage is possible if payments are not made. We work in cooperation with mobile phone operators, utilizing their existing sales, marketing, distribution and billing infrastructure.
To fulfil its vision, Lumos chose to initially focus its efforts on the largest economy in Africa – Nigeria Lumos has secured an exclusive contract with MTN Nigeria to provide their 60 million subscribers affordable electricity paid for using mobile airtime.
