GOGLA thanks Grant Shapps MP for his work Prioritising Universal Energy Access

The Global Off-Grid Lighting Association would like to thank The Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP for his important contribution to the global energy access agenda during his tenure as UK Minister for International Development, where he achieved a great deal in a very short time. Mr. Shapps' leadership in highlighting and prioritising the role of off-grid solar electrification solutions in tackling global energy poverty has greatly helped to increase the visibility of this sector.

Through the "Energy Africa" campaign, which Mr. Shapps launched with the UK Department for International Development (DFID) this autumn, he has successfully encouraged numerous African governments, as well as donor countries including the UK, to prioritise the promotion of market-based off-grid solar electrification solutions as one of the quickest, cheapest and best routes towards universal energy access. GOGLA hopes that Mr. Shapps continues to help shape the future of the off-grid solar sector in his future roles.

GOGLA welcomes The Rt Hon Nick Hurd MP to his new position as UK Minister of State for International Development, and strongly encourages him to continue the "Energy Africa" campaign under his tenure. A successful continuation of its priorities can help over 600 million people in Africa achieve universal energy access by 2030. GOGLA very much looks forward to working with Mr. Hurd MP, and to continue working with his administration, on realising this potential.
