In 2017/18 GOGLA’s Powering Opportunity research, funded by the UK Department for International Development (DfID) and conducted by Altai Consulting, is the first time multiple pay-as-you-go solar companies have joined together to explore the socioeconomic impacts of solar home systems (SHS).
The results, gathered from over 2,300 customers in Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, found that in nearly 60% of households that purchased an SHS, customers undertake more economic activity, while 94% report improved quality of life.

GOGLA would like to thank DfID, Altai Consulting and off-grid solar companies BBOXX, d.light, Fenix International, M-KOPA, Mobisol, Solar Works and Zola Electric for their support and engagement in this research.
