Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC)

Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC) offers professional training, project development and technical research in the renewable sector. Since 2012 SERC has trained more than a thousand technicians and implemented various innovative pilot projects to bring renewable energy in Africa. Its main capacity building activities include: • They test Pico PV and SHS systems - The standard they are implementing for certification is the Kenyan adopted KS 2542 for the Kenyan market and IEC/TS 62257-9-5 for other markets. Note: SERC does not issue a certificate since they is not ISO 17025 certified. The team is currently working on certification. • They help manufacturers test and improve their products at development stage • New Technology Pilots – They assist pilot new technologies and monitor their performance in the market • Market Surveillance of Solar Products in the market – They do tests and make recommendations on products in the market • Capacity Building in Solar – They train solar technicians and issue certificates. Their curriculum is accredited by the Kenyan National Industrial Training Authority and their certificates recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission
