Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies with an average of 86,000 employees in more than 70 countries.

As part of its approach to thriving in the energy transition to a lower-carbon energy system, Shell’s ambition is to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 in step with society’s progress towards achieving the goals of the Paris climate agreement. Our portfolio is evolving from that of an oil and gas company to one of an all-round energy company.

Shell New Energies – set up in 2016 – is part of this transformation. It focuses on building a lower-carbon power business. This means being involved at almost every stage of the integrated electricity system, from generating electricity, to buying and selling it, storing it and supplying it directly to customers.

We are also exploring commercial ways to provide access to energy to underserved consumers. We have an ambition to provide a reliable electricity supply to 100 million people, primarily in Africa and Asia, by 2030. Since 2017, we have invested in companies that provide energy solutions for residential, commercial and industrial activities. These include Husk Power Systems, SolarNow, SteamaCo, SunFunder, Orb Energy, PowerGen and d.light.
