Off-Grid Solar for Climate Justice

The climate crisis is already causing devastation across the globe, with those living without electricity amongst the most vulnerable to its impacts. Off-grid solar energy underpins sustainable development and boosts adaptation and resilience. At the same time, it mitigates emissions from dirty fuels and promotes energy security.

The links between energy access and climate justice are clear but it is critical to ensure that more finance, policy and programmatic support are provided to those working to ensure that the poorest are not left behind in the clean energy transition.

Our Initiatives

GOGLA is currently working on various climate-related projects:

  • Power Up
GOGLA is a proud supporter of the Ashden-led Power Up Campaign. The campaign calls for more adaptation finance for clean energy access in Africa
  • Resilience and Adaptation Framework
In partnership with Acumen and Efficiency for Access, GOGLA is developing a sector-wide framework for measuring and monitoring the impact of off-grid technologies on resilience and adaptation
  • CO2e mitigation methodology
GOGLA is leading a taskforce to update methodologies on the CO2e avoidance benefits of reduced kerosene use and diesel displacement

Join Power Up

Led by Ashden, the Power Up coalition includes frontline enterprises and NGOs bringing sustainable energy to marginalised communities, and leading international energy access organisations.

The campaign is actively seeking more organisations with an interest in energy, climate and development to get involved.
