SureChill

SureChill is a unique cooling technology that keeps life-saving vaccines and food perfectly cool. It doesn’t need a constant power source or a rechargeable battery. It’s driven by nature using water and ice, enabling freeze-free cooling at a consistent 4 degrees, positively impacting the lives of consumers in emerging markets and off-grid communities. SureChill’s mission is to provide underserved consumers access to life-changing products, facilitate wider access to solar products, and enhance the potential uses of solar energy.

SureChill’s revolutionary approach to refrigeration works effectively with solar power, weak grids, or any other intermittent power supply, helping to provide the benefits of affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy access to all. Their World Health Organization (WHO) approved medical refrigerators keep temperature-sensitive vaccines in safe storage and enable millions of effective vaccinations, helping to save lives and mitigate viruses around the world.

Homes and small business fridges positively impact households, small business owners, farmers, and other productive users by providing access to sustainable cooling where access to constant power is a problem and impacts their everyday lives and affects their livelihoods. The fridges have PAYGo technology fitted enabling last-mile distributors to offer affordable financial payment models to their customers so that consumers in remote regions have access to solar refrigeration solutions.

In May, they launched a new and innovative Cooling as a Service rental model, which is bringing access to cooling to people who previously had no means to purchase an off-grid solar fridge. This enables them to earn a decent living by becoming profitable businesses.

Grace Anzanzi Mwembe, fish-selling entrepreneur thanks to her SureChill fridge

Grace Anzanzi Mwembe lives in a remote, off-grid area of the Western region of Kenya with her family. Like most people living off-grid, she has to deal with harsh everyday realities. She had been wanting to set up a fish-selling business for a long time, but she couldn’t afford the fridge she would have needed to do it.

Through SureChill’s Cooling as a Service, she has been able to obtain a fridge at an affordable price of 7 USD per week. She buys fish that she stores in the fridge and she can sell them over two or three days. Now she has been able to start her business and is earning 42 USD per week on top of the fridge’s cost.

When the SureChill team visited her recently, she said the fridge has changed her life for the better and that she now has money for her children’s well-being.
