Off-grid solar technologies are vital to help high energy access deficit countries to meet national electrification targets and other development goals, including those related to jobs, agriculture, health and climate. They are particularly designed to reach people who are currently hampered by energy poverty, many of whom are extremely vulnerable to climate change.

To help accelerate access to off-grid technologies, GOGLA, with valuable inputs and support from leading development partners, has developed two guides which propose specific actions that governments and development partners can take to accelerate energy access and scale the productive use of renewable energy (PURE).

Providing Energy Access through Off-Grid Solar: Handbook for Governments was developed by GOGLA in collaboration with the African Development Bank, International Finance Corporation, Power Africa, Sustainable Energy for All and the World Bank. It reflects the shared views of these organisations.

Scaling Productive Uses of Renewable Energy (PURE): Handbook for Governments & Development Partners was developed by GOGLA, with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU), through the international initiative Water and Energy for Food (WE4F).
